About the IRI

The Role of the SRO

The Solutions Research Organization engages in promotion of solutions research with wide-range support and cooperation from the university, while also acting to expedite the improvement of systems and structures for that purpose. The SRO further engages actively in collaboration with industry, local government, national government agencies, and other sectors of society to create programs that are more open to participation and access from the society. These operations are furthered by the strong leadership of the SRO Director who has a record of accomplishment as a researcher in academics. In order to establish solutions research as a solid presence in the university, the SRO is structured to comprise the three divisions described below.

Director's Office

The Head of the Director's Office, Research Coordinators, and Administrative Coordinators assist the Director in creating an environment in which researchers can devote their efforts to research. They also engage in public relationship activities to publicize the Organization's activities and research achievements. Their functions include responsibility for building cooperative relationships with government agencies, industry, and other entities outside the university.

Center for Innovation Systems Research (CISR)

As a university think tank, the CISR conducts research on the kinds of institutional improvement that would be appropriate for the performance of solutions research, carries out research studies to identify issues, and assigns topics for research projects. It also serves as an engine to drive the establishment of solutions research, for example by inviting a wide range of different experts from inside and outside the university, by facilitating the development of visions for activity open to society, and so on.

Solutions Research Division (SRD)

This division executes the experimental research that is required to resolve an issue in accordance with solution issues. The SRD engages in solutions research in line with the defined solution issues and roadmap, with the substance of research being revised as necessary according to periodic evaluations by outside experts and others.
